Preparing with home remedies

Learning how to be more self-sustaining is an obvious desire for many people who are involved in preparation. Food and water storage along with other supplies are typically the first area people consider, as they begin to prepare for difficulties ahead.

One area that many people often neglect to consider is health care. There is often an assumption that there will be adequate and immediate care during a crisis.

While it may be correct, it would be prudent to consider natural home remedies as part of our health care and ongoing wellness. Over the coming weeks I will begin sharing some home remedy examples of areas that might be helpful in your planning and preparation.

Asthma Help

Children and adults all over the world are now suffering from attacks of asthma. Asthma is a chronic condition that includes shrinking of the breathing passages, shortness of breath, and wheezing. Mucus accumulates in the airways making breathing difficult. The attacks are so severe that sometimes a trip to the emergency room is called for.
Excess mucus and the shrinking of the airways and inflammation make breathing difficult.

It is important to control asthma and prevent attacks if possible. Avoiding triggers for asthma attacks is the best prevention. There are other ways of preventing attacks and a few can be found in your home.

First, try sitting in a cool place and practice deep breathing. Try to relax; it will release tension in your body and in your air passages. Drink one cup of hot coffee or tea without milk. Milk can cause excess mucus. Or drink a hot cup of water. The liquids should be as hot as you can stand without burning your throat. While you are boiling water, hold a towel over your head and lean over the boiling pot. Turn on the shower on hot and wait until the steam starts rolling. Stick your head inside the shower so you can breathe the steam.

You may also try a few ingredients that may be available in your kitchen. Boil one teaspoon of olive oil, one teaspoon of honey, and a half-cup of milk. Add some garlic and drink the mixture every morning. You may try drinking two tablespoons of lemon with one tablespoon of water each morning and evening.

How about this for your system? Drink fresh cabbage juice everyday, or blend honey and lemon juice in a blender with a radish. After mixing it for 20 minutes, cook it over a low heat. Take one teaspoon of this mixture every morning when you wake.

I will share more home cure methods that will include ingredients that may be found in a natural food store. Until then…

Are you Prepared for the Collapse?

Okay, here it goes – I’m certain I’ll be labeled (again) as some crazy conspiracy theorist, or perhaps a gloom and doom preacher. Feel free to label me whatever you feel is appropriate. I’ve been called lots of things before :).

First of all, let me state that I do believe we are heading toward a collapse. In fact, it wasn’t too long ago that I would say that and be completely alone in my statement. Today, however, there are many people who now seem to agree with me.

This is not intended to be “gloom and doom” but a reminder that we must be preparing. I can not fathom how anyone can go through a day without the Faith in knowing the coming Messiah.

So why do I think there will be a collapse? Well, everything I’m seeing tells me so. You see, for a long time America has been the greatest financial powerhouse on the planet. Today, not so much. We are about to lose our lunch. Those who have held to a faith in the government structure will soon be very disappointed.

At this very moment the government wrestles with this issue of raising our debt ceiling. Basically, we have to borrow more money to keep us floating. At some point (which I believe is now), you simply can not continue borrowing above your ability to repay.

I certainly pray for our leaders and appreciate their hard work on this matter. It’s a very, very, difficult decision and one that will create major issues regardless of which way it goes. I recognize the difficulty. You see, I contend that regardless of the vote – we are heading for a collapse. Heed the call to prepare!

The US government likes to borrow money rather than make the tough choices of which programs to cut. We have become a Country of Entitlements and have continually fed the animal until it is very difficult to wean. The more we feed it, the closer we come to our own demise.

Preparation through Emotional Unity

Shared by Jeff Rowland

Think about the emotional stability that would be lost be facing economic collapse.  Think about our emotional stability during all-out war.  Can we even imagine the emotional structure of a nation or of any people during famine or a breakout of disease?

Preparing the necessities for life is only part of true preparation. You can have everything you need for survival but if we haven’t prepared our heart then we will radically be changed in our personality and begin to respond to adversity in ways we had not previously known was in us. One of the things I have learned concerning walking out my own salvation through Jesus Christ is that I was not only introduced to Him as my Redeemer and Lord, but He started me on a journey to introduce me to me. The more I know about me the less impressed I am. I’ve learned my vulnerabilities, weaknesses, and what I see lets me know that I need Jesus more today than ever.

The scriptures teach us a truth concerning the way we function as people. We do the things we do because we think the way we think, and we think the way we think because we feel the way we feel. The only way to change what we do is to change the way we think, and the only way to change the way we think is to change the way we feel. Now add the adversity that is sure to come in our lives and we have fed our emotions chaos and confusion which in turn will affect our thought life and will change our behavior. (more…)

Preparing with Wisdom and Trust: Learning from Joseph’s Story

Preparing with Wisdom and Trust: Learning from Joseph’s Story

The world around us is constantly changing, and we often find ourselves facing unexpected challenges—whether they be personal struggles, natural disasters, or global crises. The recent floods from Hurricane Helene have reminded us of the fragile nature of life and the need to be vigilant and wise in our preparations.  We mourn the losses and pray for those who have had their lives terribly impacted.   These tragic events are a sobering reminder that turbulent times may increase in frequency, and the trials we face will require more than just physical readiness. It is in such times that we must look to the wisdom and faith exemplified in the story of Joseph, the son of Jacob, and his preparation for the years of famine in Egypt.

In the face of coming challenges, we can draw comfort and guidance from God’s Word. Like Joseph, who looked beyond the immediate to prepare for the future, we are called to trust in God’s direction and make preparations, not out of fear, but with faith and peace. As the Bible says, “The prudent see danger and take refuge, but the simple keep going and pay the penalty” (Proverbs 22:3). Through Joseph’s story, we can see that preparation is a form of stewardship and an act of faith, allowing us to protect and serve others in times of need.

Joseph’s Preparation: A Biblical Example

1. God’s Guidance in Troubled Times

Joseph’s journey was one marked by hardship, betrayal, and uncertainty. Yet, God was with him through every trial, preparing him for a greater purpose. After interpreting Pharaoh’s troubling dreams, Joseph advised him to prepare during the seven years of abundance for the seven years of famine that would follow.

“Let Pharaoh look for a discerning and wise man and put him in charge of the land of Egypt. Let Pharaoh appoint commissioners over the land to take a fifth of the harvest of Egypt during the seven years of abundance” (Genesis 41:33-34).

This preparation was not driven by panic or fear but by the wisdom God imparted to Joseph. When we look at Joseph’s actions, we see a model for facing uncertainty: seek God’s guidance, use the resources wisely, and prepare diligently. In the same way, we must be attentive to what the Lord is revealing to us today.

2. Trusting in God’s Provision

Joseph’s preparation was underpinned by his faith that God would provide and guide. The seven years of abundance were not a time for complacency, but for storing up resources so that they would not perish during the lean years.

“During the seven years of abundance the land produced plentifully. Joseph collected all the food produced in those seven years of abundance in Egypt and stored it in the cities” (Genesis 41:47-48).

Joseph trusted that the God who brought abundance would also sustain them through the famine. Likewise, our trust must be in God’s ability to provide. Preparation, both physical and spiritual, is a way to acknowledge His sovereignty and provision in our lives.

3. Being Ready to Serve Others in Need

When the famine struck, Egypt became a source of refuge for many, including Joseph’s own family. Because Joseph had prepared in advance, he was able to extend help, food, and safety to those in need. His foresight and readiness saved countless lives.

“All the world came to Egypt to buy grain from Joseph, because the famine was severe everywhere” (Genesis 41:57).

Our preparation should not only focus on ourselves but also on how we can be a blessing to others. Just as Joseph’s obedience positioned him to be a source of hope and provision, we are called to use our resources, skills, and faith to support our communities in times of crisis.

Looking to the Future: Preparing with Wisdom and Faith

The story of Joseph is not just a lesson in preparedness but a reminder of God’s faithfulness in turbulent times. The Bible is filled with verses that encourage us to be wise, watchful, and ready for the days ahead.

Proverbs 6:6-8

“Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider its ways and be wise! It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores its provisions in summer and gathers its food at harvest.”
This passage reminds us that preparation is not about living in fear but about living wisely, using the resources and opportunities God gives us today to prepare for what is to come.

Luke 21:36

“Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”
Jesus’ words call us to a state of readiness—not just materially, but spiritually. Prayer and vigilance are crucial, especially in times of turmoil. Our trust in God must be our anchor, keeping us steady amid the storm.

Isaiah 26:3

“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.”
Even as we prepare, our hearts must remain at peace. The calm that comes from trusting God will enable us to make sound decisions and respond wisely when challenges arise.

Conclusion

The tragic events of recent floods are a powerful reminder that we live in a world where trials can come suddenly and without warning. Just as Joseph prepared for the famine, we are called to be discerning and wise in these times, using the abundance we have now to prepare for leaner days ahead. But our confidence must not rest in our preparations alone; it must be firmly rooted in God’s faithfulness and provision.

As we prepare, let us do so with hearts full of faith, not fear. May we look to the example of Joseph and, like him, be able to say in the future: “You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives” (Genesis 50:20). With God’s wisdom, guidance, and peace, we can navigate whatever lies ahead and be a source of strength and provision for others in need.

On the Brink

Unless you have lived on a different planet over the last couple of weeks, you know things seem to be in turmoil.  It seems that every person you talk with, are quite concerned with what is going on.

Leaders all over the world are making statements to try to calm their people, as they recognize the panic that threatens to spiral out of control.  Leading financial “experts” from leading economies are apparently working behind the scenes to coordinate a global financial rescue effort in an attempt to keep the financial markets from complete meltdown.

This week, the President of Franc – Nicolas Sarkozy – made the statement that he hoped a “New World” would emerge from this chaos.

Scotland’s leading Newspaper published an Article on this “New World Order” citing the new Global co-operation, Nationalization and State intervention – were changing our world.

Even Opec has called an emergency meeting to try to deal with the plunge of oil prices which is putting oil producing economies in turmoil.  With the world economy on the brink of a global depression, the need for oil products has diminished significantly.

So what does this all mean? (more…)

Economic Disaster looms

The Great Depression was a global crisis that started in most Countries in 1929 and ending at different times in the late 1930s or early 1940s. Obviously, most people have heard of this significant economic downturn, as it was the largest and most important economic depression in modern history.

The Great Depression started in the United States, with the general view of historian identifying the stock market crash on October 29, 1929 as the origination date. It’s interesting that the end of the depression in the U.S is associated with the war economy of World War II, beginning around 1939.

With the economic difficulties facing our world now, many people are not referencing the Great Depression and are concerned we are fast-approaching another serious Depression. As fear grips people all over the globe, their is a further deteriorating impact on our economy. International trade plunges, as people begin to cut back on purchasing. Employers are forced to trim their work force, which causes a tax revenue decline in governments – and impacts services.

Our dependencies on comforts and obsessive “need” for more “things” has been the catalyst for this recent financial unraveling. I’ll take it further, and proclaim it is our pride and self-serving hypocrisy that is bringing this destruction on us.

In fact, I firmly believe we are seeing the beginning of a permanent change in our lives. Judgment is upon us, and it will begin in the household of faith. Those who can hear, be prepared.

The lavish lifestyles of ministries will be exposed, and fall into ruin. Be prepared, believers,
