Introduction
Trusting in God’s timing is one of the greatest challenges we face in life. It requires faith that God is working behind the scenes, even when we cannot see the outcome. The Bible offers numerous examples of individuals who had to wait on God’s timing while remaining faithful and diligent in their calling. One such story is that of Joseph, whose journey is detailed in Genesis.
Though Joseph’s life was filled with betrayal, hardship, and uncertainty, his unwavering trust in God’s providence and his diligence in preparation helped him fulfill the role God had for him. Through his story, we learn valuable lessons about trusting God’s timing and the importance of remaining faithful and diligent, even during periods of adversity or waiting.
Today, we face many uncertainties. No doubt, there are struggles with doubt and fear. The story of Joseph is an inspiring reminder of the importance of leaning on God’s providence and provision as we journey through the difficult times. God’s timing is always perfect.
The Journey of Trust and Providence
Joseph’s life was marked by both adversity and eventual triumph. He was sold into slavery by his brothers out of jealousy, and later falsely accused and imprisoned in Egypt. Despite these trials, Joseph rose to a position of authority, becoming second in command to Pharaoh, and was ultimately used by God to save many lives during a severe famine (Genesis 41).
Joseph’s story illustrates how God’s providence often unfolds in ways we cannot foresee. What appeared to be setbacks—his betrayal by his brothers and his imprisonment—were, in fact, steps toward fulfilling God’s plan. Joseph recognized this himself, saying to his brothers in Genesis 50:20, “As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present result, to preserve many people alive” (NAS). His story reminds us that God’s timing is always perfect, even when the path is difficult.
Trusting God’s Timing in the Face of Adversity
One of the key themes in Joseph’s story is the importance of trusting in God’s timing, especially when life is full of adversity. Joseph could have easily given up hope when he was sold into slavery or when he was imprisoned on false charges. However, he continued to trust that God was in control, even when his situation seemed bleak.
This trust is echoed in Genesis 39:2, which says, “The Lord was with Joseph, so he became a successful man” (NAS). Even in slavery and later in prison, Joseph remained confident that God had a purpose for him. This teaches us that adversity does not mean God has abandoned us; rather, it may be part of His greater plan to prepare us for what’s ahead.
Trusting in God’s timing requires us to remember that He sees the bigger picture. Like Joseph, we may not understand why we face certain trials, but we can rest assured that God is working for our good, even in the midst of hardship.
Diligence in Preparation Even When the Future Is Uncertain
Joseph’s journey demonstrates the importance of being diligent in our work, even when we do not know what the future holds. When Joseph was sold into slavery in Egypt, he didn’t allow his circumstances to deter him from working diligently in Potiphar’s house. Genesis 39:4 tells us that Potiphar “made him overseer over his house, and all that he owned he put in his charge” (NAS). Later, in prison, Joseph again showed diligence, taking on responsibilities that eventually led to his rise to power in Egypt (Genesis 39:22).
This teaches us that preparation and hard work are essential, even when the future seems uncertain. Our faithfulness in the small tasks is often part of God’s preparation for greater responsibilities. Luke 16:10 reflects this principle: “He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much” (NAS). We must trust that the diligence we show in our current circumstances is part of God’s plan for what He is preparing for us in the future.
Overcoming Doubts While Staying Faithful
Though Joseph’s faith and diligence were steadfast, it is likely that he faced moments of doubt, especially during the long years of waiting. After being falsely accused by Potiphar’s wife and thrown into prison, Joseph spent years in confinement, seemingly forgotten (Genesis 40:23). During this time, it would have been natural for Joseph to wonder whether God’s plan for him was still on track.
However, Joseph did not allow doubt to deter him from remaining faithful. When called upon to interpret dreams, even while still in prison, Joseph credited God as the one who could provide the interpretations (Genesis 41:16). Joseph’s faith, even in the midst of uncertainty, teaches us that we must remain faithful to God’s calling, trusting that He is still working, even when we face doubts.
Proverbs 3:5-6 offers us guidance when doubts arise: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight” (NAS). Joseph’s faith in God’s plan, despite his long wait, serves as a powerful reminder that God’s timing is perfect, even when we cannot see the full picture.
The Importance of Faithfulness During the Waiting Season
Perhaps one of the greatest tests of faith for Joseph was the waiting season—those long years when he was in prison and seemingly forgotten. Yet, even during this period of waiting, Joseph remained faithful. He continued to serve with diligence and integrity, knowing that God had not abandoned him, even though the fulfillment of God’s promises seemed far off.
In time, Joseph’s faithfulness was rewarded. When Pharaoh had a dream that needed interpretation, Joseph was called upon, and because of his faithfulness and preparation, he was ready to rise to the challenge (Genesis 41:14-16). Joseph’s eventual elevation to a position of power in Egypt demonstrates that God’s timing is always perfect, and that our faithfulness during the waiting season is never in vain.
Psalm 27:14 reminds us of the importance of patience and trust during times of waiting: “Wait for the Lord; be strong and let your heart take courage; yes, wait for the Lord” (NAS). Joseph’s story encourages us to remain strong and courageous, trusting that God’s timing is always for our good, even when we cannot see it immediately.
Conclusion
Joseph’s life offers a powerful example of how to trust in God’s timing while remaining faithful and diligent in preparation. Through betrayal, imprisonment, and years of uncertainty, Joseph continued to trust in God’s plan and prepared himself for the role God had in store for him. His ability to overcome doubts and remain diligent in his work, even when the future seemed unclear, is a model for us all as we navigate seasons of waiting and adversity.
As we face our own challenges and periods of waiting, Joseph’s story reminds us that God is always working, even when we cannot see it. Our responsibility is to trust in His timing, remain faithful in the tasks before us, and continue preparing for the future He has planned.

Like many people, I have often battled with life’s challenges. I’ve struggled at times to embrace what I believe is God’s call and assignment – and I’ve often questioned my own abilities to handle the positions I’ve been entrusted. It’s been encouraging to study and understand how Joseph handled his Divine assignment.
In times of crisis, true leadership emerges not from titles or position, but from divine preparation and positioning. Perhaps no biblical account illustrates this more powerfully than Joseph’s rise to authority in Egypt. Here was a young Hebrew slave, suddenly elevated to become second only to Pharaoh himself. “You shall be over my house, and according to your command all my people shall do homage” (Genesis 41:40).
But what caught Pharaoh’s attention wasn’t just Joseph’s ability to interpret dreams – it was the spirit of divine wisdom that flowed through his leadership. “Then Pharaoh said to his servants, ‘Can we find a man like this, in whom is the Spirit of God?'” (Genesis 41:38). This reveals our first crucial insight: true authority flows from God’s presence in our lives, not from our own capabilities.
Consider the extraordinary transition. One day, Joseph was a prisoner; the next, he held the keys to Egypt’s survival. “See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt. Then Pharaoh took off his signet ring from his hand and put it on Joseph’s hand, and clothed him in garments of fine linen” (Genesis 41:41-42). This wasn’t just a promotion – it was a divine positioning for purpose.
The Foundation of Divine Authority
Notice what preceded Joseph’s elevation. Through years of betrayal, slavery, and imprisonment, God was building character that could handle crisis-level authority. “Until the time that his word came to pass, the word of the Lord tested him” (Psalm 105:19). Leadership capacity is forged in the furnace of trials.
Joseph’s response to his sudden authority reveals several crucial leadership principles:
- He immediately took action: “Then Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh and went through all the land of Egypt” (Genesis 41:46). True leaders don’t wait for perfect conditions – they move with purpose and urgency.
- He implemented systematic solutions: “Let them gather all the food of these good years that are coming and store up the grain” (Genesis 41:35). Vision without organization is just dreaming.
- He thought beyond the immediate crisis: “The food shall be as a reserve for the land for the seven years of famine” (Genesis 41:36). Leaders must see beyond current circumstances to prepare for future challenges.
Embracing Full Authority
One of the most striking aspects of Joseph’s leadership was his complete embrace of the authority given to him. He didn’t shrink back with false humility or hesitate with self-doubt. When Pharaoh said, “Without your permission no one shall raise his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt” (Genesis 41:44), Joseph accepted this authority as a divine responsibility.
This teaches us something profound about godly leadership: when God positions us for purpose, false humility can be as dangerous as pride. “For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline” (2 Timothy 1:7).
Leading Through Chaos
When the famine hit, Joseph’s leadership truly shined. “When all the land of Egypt was famished, the people cried out to Pharaoh for bread; and Pharaoh said to all the Egyptians, ‘Go to Joseph; whatever he says to you, you shall do'” (Genesis 41:55).
Notice several key qualities:
- He remained calm in crisis: There’s no record of Joseph panicking or wavering. His preparation gave him confidence.
- He administered with wisdom: “Joseph opened all the storehouses” (Genesis 41:56). He didn’t release everything at once but managed resources wisely.
- He maintained perspective: Even in managing a crisis, he never forgot that he was serving God’s larger purpose: “God sent me before you to preserve life” (Genesis 45:5).
The Divine Pattern of Authority
Joseph’s leadership reveals a pattern for those God calls to lead:
- Divine Preparation: “The plans of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the Lord” (Proverbs 16:1). God prepares us through experiences we often don’t understand at the time.
- Divine Positioning: “And who knows whether you have not attained royalty for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14). God positions us strategically for His purposes.
- Divine Purpose: “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand” (Ephesians 2:10).
Taking Full Charge of Divine Assignments
When God gives us an assignment, He also gives us the authority to complete it. Like Joseph, we must:
- Accept the authority: Don’t minimize or shrink from what God has given you to do.
- Act decisively: “Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men” (Colossians 3:23).
- Administer wisely: Lead with both confidence and humility, knowing the authority comes from God.
The Heart of True Leadership
Joseph’s ultimate success wasn’t just in saving Egypt – it was in fulfilling God’s larger purpose of preserving His people. “You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present result, to preserve many people alive” (Genesis 50:20).
This reveals the heart of true leadership: it’s not about our elevation but about God’s purpose. When we embrace divine authority with this perspective, we lead not from position but from purpose.
Let us pray: Father, like Joseph, help us to embrace the full authority You give us for Your purposes. Remove false humility and fear that would hold us back from fully stepping into Your assignments. Grant us wisdom to lead in times of crisis, keeping our eyes fixed on Your larger purpose. Help us to lead with both confidence and humility, knowing that all authority comes from You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Remember: When God gives you an assignment, He also gives you the authority to complete it. Don’t shrink back – step fully into what He has called you to do. Your leadership, like Joseph’s, might be the very means through which God preserves and protects His people in times of crisis.

Many people have been anticipating a disastrous time that would bring difficulties to our very existence. They believe that their very survival will depend on the ability to overcome and adapt to certain tragic events.
In my own life journey, there have been many people I have encountered who have predicted our “impending doom”. It seems to me that there will always be people out there who spread fear, gloom, and despair about a coming event that will alter the course of our lives. Everyone remembers Y2k and the giant “gotcha” feeling that came when nothing happened. I’ve come to realize, many of the people who were screaming about the coming disaster of Y2K, are now spreading fear about some looming event in the future.
The problem for me is… we are creating some of the disaster with the message of fear and destruction, rather than giving people hope.
On Y2K, my alarm clock went off, my computer turned on, and the power grid did not fail. I was ready (and almost anticipating) a difficult period of time. It was almost a disappointment that I had spent time worrying about what might happen.
You see, the fact that so many people are anticipating some major catastrophe, is what really concerns me. I meet so many people who have given up “hope” because they just don’t see the point anymore. They live their lives wondering – “why hope, when there is a disaster coming?”. That’s a terrible existence, and certainly not the way I want to live my life.
I imagine the early settlers of America really didn’t sit around and worry about a cataclysmic event that would suddenly end their lives. If they did, why would they have ventured from their homeland in the first place? Why not sit at home and wait on destruction from there?
Well, I guess they had hope of a better life and were willing to endure hardships in pursuit of that life. I’m thankful that they did – as it paved the way for where we are today in the US.
The point for me is, there may be difficulties coming. In fact, my belief is there are definitely difficult times ahead. My “call” is NOT to sit around and wait on the collapse of our existence, rather, to prepare so that when that day arrives – I can share hope with those who are in fear and distress.
For a long time, I have felt that the Lord was bringing me to a place of preparation. I was never quite sure what that meant, but certainly did not go around telling everyone that the “sky was falling”. On the contrary, I have tried to raise my children to have HOPE in the things that were ahead – and to live each day with passion and joy. My eternity is secure, and my Joy is in Christ (Yeshua).
So what is all this talk of preparation?
For me, it is getting myself and my family prepared for the great opportunity that awaits us – and especially the joy of a great harvest that will come.
Make no mistake, there are major challenges ahead. Those who have been slumbering, and wasteful, will awaken to find an empty cubbard. They will certainly be afraid when they realize they are hungry, and have foolishly wasted their time acquiring pleasures – rather than preparing.
God is our refuge and strength. He is calling us to prepare – not live in Fear, but walk in Faith. The first step of Faith, is to accept Jesus Christ (Yeshua) as the messiah.

My lovely wife, Donna shared the following:
When reading the Scriptures, it never ceases to amaze me of how God speaks on more than one ‘level’ within each context. It is my observation and opinion that He usually speaks in His Word on three main levels at once. Today, He lead me to a portion that really works as that example.
Here are the ways I see that God speaks all at the same time:
1. Spiritual. He of course speaks to us in our Spiritual walk with Him. The Word is full of reminders of our walk and how He is our Restorer and His Promises are True. He guides us by what we should and should not do for our Spiritual well being.
2. Literal/Physical – Yes, the Bible is historical, but more than that I believe God tells us physically what has happened, what WILL happen and personally where we are/will be in this life. He speaks of our physical place (where we live or move) and our position or role in this life.
3. Israel – As God’s Chosen Race, He always is wooing His beloved people. Each verse has something to say to the Hebrew Nation. In times of prosperity, war or His return. All verses are pointed for the Chosen People of God.

As things continue to intensify and people struggle with the uncertainties of the times, it is important that we continue preparing – and especially getting prepared spiritually.
Recently, my sister wrote a daily devotional on “Spiritual Maturity”. I thought it was very good and certainly timely with what is going on now in the world. I’ve shared on the topic before, but I think her points certainly warrant repeating. I will share some of the main points of her article below.
Fulfilling the call of God on your life – and also getting prepared for future difficulties – will require spiritual maturity. If we examine what Solomon had to go through to prepare to build the house of the Lord, we gain insight into how the Lord prepares us and trains us up. King David wanted to build the House of the Lord, but God told him that Solomon would be the one who would build the House. Even though David was probably disappointed, he began helping Solomon prepare himself for the task. In 1 Chronicles 29:1 David said, “Solomon is yet young and tinder” (inexperienced), in other words he had not matured yet. King David knew Solomon was inexperience and would need to mature in order to accomplish the call on his life.
Right now as our world faces growing uncertainties, many people are living in fear and panic. Unfortunately, many people have simply been oblivious to the need to ready themselves for difficulties – or may have ignored the preparation call. We live in a world of immaturity. We live in a time when the adults have more toys than the children and most people don’t want to grow up. The first step to spiritual maturity comes as the worldly desires are put aside and the work of the kingdom becomes a priority.

Every day it seems more-and-more people are concerned and are beginning to prepare. Some are not quite sure what they are preparing for, but I hear most say they are preparing for disaster.
I heard a preparation call more than 30 years ago. At the time, I didn’t quite understand what it meant to “prepare”, but I tried to just step on Faith. As it turns out, what I assumed was preparation is far more intense than I ever imagined.
The urgency and importance of preparation has never been more critical. As I hear comments from US Government leaders and see the direction we are headed as a Country, I realize that we are racing toward difficulties and disasters that we have never encountered before. The arrogance and audacity of hope founded on intellectual ascent may soon unleash peril upon us – if there is not repentance.
The stunning developments that are now unfolding impress upon me the urgent need for people to prepare. I believe there is an increasing intensity coming that will shake the foundations, especially if our leaders abandon Israel.
On that day, when all the nations of the earth are gathered against her, I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all the nations. All who try to move it will injure themselves. New International Version
Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem. Prepare, because the day of the Lord is upon us.
